No soldering, no need to shield, and these sound amazing!

I was all set to solder and shield the cavities, but the EMG system is no solder and no need for shielding it is quiet. You get all sorts of amazing tones out of these. Be prepared to possibly need to route out a bit off the sides of your control cavity to drop the battery in (do a bit on both sides - tiny amount - and your control plate will cover it) but the pickups all plug in to the controls. EMG has a great install video on YouTube.

These are not the bright twangy bridge and the dark quiet at the neck - although you can still get that.

Check out the demos. Metal, Jazz, Country, Rock, Funk - this is a whole new world for teles. Everyone who hears these asks me about them. Very responsive for active pickups IMO and the best of both worlds.
