Faux 35

Builder: Scott

Description: This was my second Fret Wire Kit. The first my son and built together for him. I have always wanted an ES-335 but couldn’t justify the cost. I bought this kit and upgraded to the Seymour Duncan Fat Cat P90 pickups and used 500k pots. WOW just the sound I have been looking for. I had to spend a lot of time on the frets to get it to play the way I like my guitars. I am in love with this on. Needless to say I did badge it as a Gibson but I think of that as more of a bumper sticker. Like adding a Corvette sticker to a Honda. We all know it’s a Honda even though it says Corvette.

Very Nice. These 335 kits are nice. I will buy another from Fretwire and build it out. I bought my first 335 kit from somewhere else before I knew about Sam and The Fret Wire store. Now, this is where I shop. I like your Gibson stamp and your finish appeared very nice.

The finish is Valspar Cherry Red latex paint. I thinned it way down with water and rubbed it on with a towel. I used some Red Mahogany stain to do the neck. The whole guitar then got 4 coats of automotive urethane clear. Sanded it down and polished it out.

The first coat of clear was tinted with a small amount of yellow. I wanted it to look a little aged and the finish on the back was rubbed thin in places to appear old as well.

Makes me want a 335 kit, always kinda shied away from them cause of their size but may give one a try “just cause”.
