Great Bass

Neck was perfect and played great. Body didn’t stain completely so I built is as an old used model. I added a bone nut and later replaced 3 point bridge with Badass 3 point replacement bridge.
I used 6 coats of rub on poly for a nice look. Very pleased with it and am waiting for this to be in stock again as I’ve been commissioned to build one for a friend who was highly pleased with mine.

This is amazing you have a great build there! Thanks for sharing it to us.

Excellent Hollow-body Bass Guitar kit!

TheFretwire Company has once again marketed an excellent product. This is my fourth guitar kit purchased from this company within the last 6 months, and I will admit that over the last 3 years of building guitars, I have not seen any other quality manufacturer that delivers a price / competitive product. The manufacturing quality control of these guitar kits are well above their competitors.

This Hollow Body Bass guitar kit is similar to the Gibson Guitar ES-335 Semi-Hollow body Electric Bass, and is a tribute to the well-known EB-2. The kit features a beautifully resonant body, fitted with two styled humbuckers, one in the middle/neck and the other in the bridge. A one-piece maple neck with rounded profile, rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlays, 1-5/8۝ width nut, and chrome Grover styled open-gear tuning machines with clover keys make this a real beauty. Electronics are 2 volume, 2 tone controls and a 3-way toggle switch for pickup selection. Additionally, the hard mounted tail piece is fully adjustable for intonation and playability.

The overall tone of this bass will have great low-range response with a distinct and desirable woody character, most commonly associated with hollow body and semi-hollow body basses. The rounded profile on this bass kit is a great and comfortable throwback to earlier eras, perfect for players who like a truly full-in-hand feel.

If you۪re looking for a super clean, well-built hollow body bass kit with a great tone, and exceptional playability, this is an excellent bass kit to build.

Not a beginner kit

I've tried two of these kits. First kit, neck and neck fitting was a mess. Fretwire folks took care of it, no problems.

Second kit was much better in that regard, but still required some pretty elaborate surgery to the neck pocket to make a playable instrument. I suggest building a jig so you clamp the neck and check the fitting under full tension before gluing. I used a 3/4 thick piece of wood the width of the fretboard and about 3 inches long and cut dados for the strings. I could clamp that on the top of the neck and scrap piece on the back to hold the neck in place with strings to check the angle and straightness as I worked on the neck pocket.

The veneers on the second body weren't quite as nice as the first, so there is some variation. It did require some fret dressing, all but maybe 25% of the pilot holes were in the wrong place, and the hole for the low E tuner was too close to the edge of the head stock. Both kits had the same problems. Also get some shielded wire for the guts instead of the stuff included else it's pretty noisy. Having said all that, I'm fairly happy with the end result. Sounds and plays pretty good for $200ish. A lot of fun to assemble and finish.
